Superdry is profitable again

British fashion retailer Superdry Plc has announced its preliminary full year results for the financial year 2022 (25 April 2021 to 30 April 2022). Accordingly, the company was able to generate an adjusted profit before tax of 21.9 million pounds (around 25 million euros) in the past financial year. The year before, Suderdry made a loss of £12.6m (around €14.3m).

In terms of sales, the company generated £609.6 million (around €696.6 million), which corresponds to an increase of 9.6 percent over the previous year.

Julian Dunkerton, Chief Executive Officer of Superdry, said: “These are extraordinary times for retail and for the economy in general and like all brands we need to work harder than ever to improve performance. Against this backdrop, I am pleased that we have managed to return to profitability, fueled by higher full price sales, while making strong strategic strides.”

Looking ahead to the coming months, he adds: “Superdry is an affordable, premium brand, which means we are well positioned for customers to think more carefully about their purchases. In light of the current difficult conditions, we are managing the business prudently and focusing on achieving our strategic goals.”

Due to increasing cost inflation, exacerbated by the conflict in Ukraine, the company expects operating margins to be squeezed in all regions in the coming months. For the financial year 2023, Superdry expects an adjusted profit before tax of between ten and twelve million pounds (around 11.4 and 13.7 million euros).
