The embargo on social comments on Super Mario Bros. – The Movie expires: the initial comments are very good, even if there is no shortage of critics.
Super Mario Bros. The Film will be in cinemas from April 5 but, in the meantime, the first reactions of those – including journalists and influencers – who were able to see it in preview have arrived on social networks. The good news for those who, using Chris Pratt’s words, feared that the film would ruin their childhood is that, apparently, Illumination, Nintendo and Universal have achieved their goal of proposing an animated film that respects the history of the franchise and fun.
First comments on Super Mario Bros. – The Movie —
“Super Mario Bros. The Movie is the definitive love letter to all of the Mario eras,” explains Fandango’s Erik Davis on Twitter, as reported YES. “After watching the movie, I felt like after playing video games. It’s joyful. Plus, stay tuned for the credits.” MinnMax’s Isla Hinck also enjoyed Illumination’s vision for Princess Peach. “Super Mario Bros. The Movie is great! So funny and with so many references. I loved it. And it’s beautiful! And Peach is so cool.” Kinda Funny’s Tim Gettys added that “the music is the star of the show. Nintendo fans will be obsessed with it. I’m not sure there has ever been a movie in history with that many easter eggs. And so good!”.
Not all so positive —
Not only positive opinions, however. Germain Lussier of Gizmodo noted that “a few solid scenes capture the spirit of the game but, for the most part, it’s an all too silly and basic plot filled with bad jokes and even worse songs. Visually it’s great, but I was more bored and annoyed than entertained.” More tender but equally not 100% convinced was the critic Rendy Jones: “Mario’s worlds are brought to life with world-class animation and energetic action that children and fans will love. That said, it’s a Mario film made by Illumination, and I won’t go any further.” With only two days left until release, fans will be able to find out for themselves what they think of the film very soon.
