There were no goals in the top game of the Turkish Süper Lig between Fenerbahce and Galatasaray. Fenerbahce therefore remains leaders.
After the 0-0 draw on Sunday (December 24th, 2023), the two Istanbul local rivals each have 44 points on their account, 15 more than Kayserispor, third in the table.
There were hardly any highlights at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium. Hosts Fenerbahce didn’t have a shot on goal, Galatasary only had one.
There will be another direct comparison between Turkey’s two top clubs on Friday (December 29, 2023). Then Fenerbahce and Galatasaray will play for the Supercup, although not in Istanbul, but in Saudi Arabia.
Two incidents within eight days
The sporting events in the Süper Lig have recently been overshadowed by two scandals. On December 11, Faruk Koca, President of Ankaragücüpunched referee Halil Umut Meler in the cheekbone in the middle of the pitch and was banned for life.
Eight days later, Istanbulspor president Ecmel Faik Sarialioglu was so upset about a referee’s decision that he took his players off the field and caused the game to be abandoned.
