Süper Lig: Galatasaray ends champion dry spell

Galatasaray are Turkish champions for the 23rd time. The record holder secured the title ahead of their great rivals Fenerbahce and Besiktas thanks to a 4-1 (2-1) win at MKE Ankaragücü one matchday before the end of the season.

Most recently, Galatasaray became champion in 2019.

With a five-point lead, coach Okan Buruk’s team can no longer be dislodged from first place before the season finale against Fenerbahce next Saturday.

Mauro Icardi (7th, 38th) laid the foundation for the renewed championship with his brace.

In addition to the Argentine, the Belgian Dries Mertens, the Spaniard Juan Mata and the former Bremen Milot Rashica also appear for Galatasaray.
