On the night from Sunday to Monday, more than a million people watched the Super Bowl on RTL. They hardly got to see Björn Werner.
The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl for the second time in a row. The team around superstar Patrick Mahomes beat the San Francisco 49ers 25:22. An average of 1.71 million watched the National Football League final on RTL during the Super Bowl premiere on the Cologne television station. This resulted in a higher reach than the finale last year on ProSieben with an average of 1.54 million people.
Björn Werner was hardly visible. The ex-player and RTL expert was part of the preliminary reports and was present in the countdown to the game. However, when the show started, the 33-year-old no longer played a role. Why? He explained this in his podcast “Football Bromance” with Patrick Esume.
“Everything else will be discussed internally”
“A week ago, RTL told us all what the plan was for the Super Bowl. It was said that I would be part of the pre-game show, but would not comment during the game,” explained Werner. He was supposed to deal with social media posts from fans alongside community host Mitja Lafere. But: “When the game started, I took my place with Mitja. Unfortunately, I wasn’t involved in the program as I was told.”
Werner’s disappointment could be heard. “I’m leaving it like that now because I don’t want to make anything bigger out of it. So you know, I’m fine and it wasn’t my fault. Everything else will be discussed internally,” added the 33-year-old.
Apparently fans were worried because they no longer saw Werner during the broadcast. That’s why the former Indianapolis Colts linebacker made it clear that he was fine. Werner apparently also expressed his disappointment about the decision to the broadcaster: “RTL knows how I think about it and how I feel. I told them that openly and honestly.”
