Super Bowl gives RTL top ratings

For the first time, the Super Bowl was broadcast on the private broadcaster in Cologne. It exceeded its season best – and the ProSieben mark from the previous year.

With the broadcast of the Super Bowl, private broadcaster RTL, as expected, achieved its best value of this NFL season.

An average of 2.12 million viewers tuned in in the first quarter of the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, which began at 12:40 a.m. German time. The market share was 30.6 percent.

This means that the Cologne station was also above ProSieben’s previous year’s figure. At that time, an average of 1.77 million people watched the first quarter from 12:30 a.m. In 2022, around 400,000 more viewers tuned in to the football highlight of the year.

Before the season, RTL took over the broadcasting rights from ProSieben and showed the NFL and the Super Bowl live on free TV in Germany for the first time.

RTL also exceeds ProSieben values after halftime

Even after the first half of the game in Las Vegas, many spectators remained glued to the screen. An average of 1.67 million people in this country saw the halftime show with singer Usher after 2 a.m. At the start of the second half there were still 1.54 million TV viewers. That meant around a quarter of a million more viewers than in 2023.

TV ratings from the USA have not yet been published. In the last 15 years, around 100 million people have tuned in. Given these exceptional figures, broadcasters can drive advertising prices to record highs. A 30-second halftime spot cost $7 million this year.
