The bale Monday that the Groningen baker Menno Plagmeijer experienced this week had everything to speak to the collective outrage. Plagmeijer, who runs Broodje van Eigen Deeg in the center of Groningen, received a scolding from the municipality. He used to open his shop on Sunday mornings, which is not allowed in the city. At least: not where shops are concerned. Coffee shops, lunchrooms and other catering establishments can receive customers from early in the morning. From now on, the Eigen Deeg sandwich may only be unlocked at 12 o’clock.
