We are going – if we are to believe the predictions – for two summer weeks. Next week will be the first week with temperatures well above twenty degrees, a week later the temperatures will rise even further. In short: ready to go outside again. Outdoor swimming pools and ice cream parlors are ready.
If today is the start of a period full of sunshine, we cannot complain. Jan Visser: “Tomorrow we will reach temperatures of around 23 degrees, with lots of sun and at most some veil clouds later in the day.”
This week the weather will change slightly, but if we are to believe the weatherman, the warm weather will not be long in coming.
Sun is the ingredient
North Holland swimming pools and ice cream parlors are already looking forward to it. The crowds are also slowly increasing again. Remarkable: it only gets really busy when there are a few consecutive warm days with sun.
“Sun is an important element, we keep a close eye on the weather. As soon as there are clouds, we notice this immediately,” says Karin Heiwweiller of IJssalon Da Vinci in Amstelveen. “It is better to be 14 or 15 degrees with sunshine than it is warmer but cloudy.”
“After lunch, people will stop by for an ice cream before Mother’s Day, I think”
Also with Swimming pool Sijsjesberg in Huizen it is getting busier. “Yesterday it was very cosy, very warm, weekend and the children were on holiday,” says Daniel Wichers.
When it gets warmer for a few days in a row, the crowds at the outdoor pool especially increase. “If the temperatures rise well above 20 degrees, we get really busy. But in general, the sun has to shine for several days in a row to generate crowds.”

‘Happy Mother’s Day’
On this sunny day, many mothers were literally put in the spotlight. For one, that meant a treat on ice cream. “After lunch, people will stop by for an ice cream before Mother’s Day, I think,” says Isabel van Baar, daughter of the owner of IJssalon Di Fiorentia in Heiloo.
The ice cream parlor is also a popular spot when the sun is out. There are often long drives, especially in summer. “We are known for those long lines,” laughs Van Baar. “But they continue well and standing in line is often fun.”
sunny weeks
Swimming pool Sijsjesberg also expects extra crowds in the coming weeks and next summer. “I think that more people are now purchasing a seasonal subscription, because corona measures no longer apply.”
The pool has used the last two quieter years to make a big splash about the pool. The entrance has been renovated and there is a brand new ‘spray park’. “That is especially fun for the little ones. Then they press a button, for example, and a jet of water or mist comes out,” he laughs.
