Summer stop Op1 causes a heavy drop in viewing figures: ‘This is really absurd’

The viewing figures of NPO 1 are in a free fall downwards now that the talk show Op1 has gone unplanned with a summer break. “Absurd actually, a whole summer break because of some arguing.”

It was actually the intention that Op1 would just run all summer long, just like in previous years, but an inserted summer break still started yesterday. The reason? Things are rumbling behind the scenes, BNNVARA has left the program and now the remaining broadcasters want to carry out a restyling of the decor.

NPO 1 collapses

On the first day of the sudden Op1 summer break, the viewing figures of NPO 1 immediately collapsed. Where the talk show managed to captivate 997 thousand viewers last Monday, the replacement – the detective series Silent Witness – did not exceed 388 thousand viewers (13 percent market share) last night.

It should of course be noted that last Monday was a spectacular news day due to the announced departure of Mark Rutte from politics. Over the entire week, an average of 841 thousand people watched the talk show last week, reports Look at ratings.

‘Really absurd’

According to Tina Nijkamp, it is ridiculous that NPO 1 has introduced a summer break for Op1. “It’s a shame that summer break, the viewing figures plummet to only 400 thousand viewers. There was also a huge nosedive in the commercial target group aged 25 to 54: from 24.8 percent to 7.6 percent. Well. And all because there was a fight behind the scenes.”

She continues on her channel: “Because this stop was actually not planned at all. But the consequences of quarreling bosses and a nasty atmosphere also have consequences for the viewers. Absurd actually, a very urgent summer break due to arguing, but apparently that is possible at the NPO. Hart van Nederland now wins the 10.30 pm slot with 744 thousand viewers.”

Renze does not benefit

It is striking that Renze Klamer’s RTL 4 talk show does not seem to benefit from the Op1 break. Yesterday it managed to attract 41 thousand more viewers than last Monday and comes to 727 thousand viewers (20 percent).

The Hélène Hendriks talk show De Oranjezomer has 725,000 viewers (17 percent), but according to Kijk op Kijkfigures it scores much worse in the commercial target group, namely 23 versus 12 percent market share.
