Summer holiday begins: check out the travel tips from ANWB here

The summer holidays have now also started for the North and that means that many people are going out again. The ANWB expects peak traffic this summer, because more people take the car than in previous years. With these tips you will be well prepared, even if you go to the warm south of Europe.

Hans Korfage from Assen was already busy cleaning his camper yesterday. He and his wife Hanny plan to visit the children in the Noordoostpolder and then drive to Limburg. “I check everything. When I leave everything has to be complete and good. That’s a bit of a hobby of mine.”

And that is immediately one of the tips from the ANWB: check everything you can check yourself before a long journey: the coolant, the oil level, the lighting, air conditioning, tire pressure and whether you have a star in the window.

And if you break down on the way, the ANWB is ready to help. They expect large crowds and therefore have twice as many people working in the summer.

Hans can talk about it. It came to a standstill once due to a leaky valve. “That valve popped out and we went whistling across the road. It sank further and further. We were able to reach the verge and then we put the spare tire under it.”

But that spare tire is no longer standard in every car. In newer cars it is sometimes no longer present. Holidaymakers also sometimes take it out of the car to create space. Fenny in ‘t Veld, operational manager at ANWB, would advise against this: “If there is a spare tire in the car, take it with you. This prevents a lot of hassle on location and long waiting times.”
