Summer camp teaches children to swim safely in the sea
Being able to swim is included in the attainment targets of primary education, but children are swimming less and less at school. Moreover, swimming in the sea cannot be compared to swimming in a swimming pool.
Knokke-Heist therefore wants to focus on swimming safety. Together with Swim-Safe from Bredene, the municipality organizes the camp ‘Omnisport and lifesaving swimming at sea’. “It is useful to know when you go swimming in the sea what can happen and how to solve it,” explains Noah Fredericq of Swim-Safe. Ten children between 11 and 14 participate in the camp and learn about CPR and about the current, and also effectively apply that theory in the sea.
