The basketball players of Den Helder Suns have lost the Supercup to cup winner Grasshoppers. The opponent from Katwijk quickly took a lead and did not relinquish it in the remainder of the game: 75 – 86.

Den Helder, the national champion, took on Grasshoppers in its own Sporthal Sportlaan. The Katwijkers were the cup winner last season. The home team was able to keep up well in the first quarter, but had a lot of trouble with an extremely effective Grasshoppers. After the first quarter, the gap was still small: 14-18. Thanks in part to several three-pointers from Mecx van Linge and successful free throws from newcomer Iris Vennema, Suns kept on track.

The sisters Sonja and Karin Kuijt scored many points and therefore the margin increased at half time: 35-45. Grasshoppers remained the dominant party and also extended the lead to 54-67 in the third quarter. The basketball players of coach Mario Bennes tried to turn the tide in the last part of the game, but the margin was too large. As a result, Grasshoppers takes first prize early in the season. In the end the 75-86 final score was on the board and at Suns Vennema was top scorer with twenty points.
