For a long time there seemed to be no blemish in the air for Apollo Amsterdam. The basketball players entered the last quarter with a comfortable margin of twelve points. However, Yoast United did not give in, which made it exciting for a while. In the end, the team from Amsterdam could resist the comeback and won 79-69.
Apollo started brighter than Yoast United and it paid off. Partly thanks to veteran Sergio de Randamie, who was the boss under the basket, the team from Amsterdam took a lead. After the first quarter it was 23-17.
The number of personal fouls by the hosts increased in the second quarter. As a result, the visitors mainly scored free throws, but the lead was extended: 42-30.
After the break, Apollo remained stronger and the Amsterdam team kept the initiative. Roger Moute a Bidias proved to be a true tease in the third quarter and made several important points. This kept the lead of twelve points: 60-48.
Unexpected comeback
To the surprise of the audience present – about 150 people – the visitors from Bemmel returned to two points. Reason enough for Apollo coach Wierd Goedee to request a time-out. After putting their heads together, the team from Amsterdam started a successful final sprint and the points remained in-house: 79-69.
