The Portuguese team overcame a 2-0 deficit with a goal from André Castro in the last minute of the match
Becker’s double for the Germans faded as the minutes passed
Braga beat Union Berlin 2-3 this Tuesday on the second day of the Champions League, after having been losing 2-0 and thanks to a goal from André Castro at the last moment of stoppage time (m.94) , just in a phase in which the Berliners had had more arrivals.
The match was full of twists and turns in terms of control of the match, always with more possession for Braga, but with Union generating more dangerous arrivals.
The first half belonged to the Union. Almost at the beginning of the game, in the 4th minute, there was an overflow on the right wing by Sheraldo Becker that ended in a goal from Robin Gosens who was annulled by the VAR after detecting an offside in the previous play. That Union attack was a preview of something that was going to mark the game in the first half.
Braga’s defense played very advanced, which was taken advantage of by Union to launch quick attacks taking advantage of Becker’s speed. Although Braga had the ball more, Union generated more arrivals and had the clearest chances.
Union’s first goal came in the 31st minute through Becker in a counterattack that began in the Berlin team’s area. Juranovic cut off an advance and played with Juranovic, who gave Becker a deep ball so that he could reach the area and finish with a shot between the legs of goalkeeper Matheus.
The second came in the 37th minute. The start was again a long ball from the own half that Toussart extended with a header so that Becker got between the Braga defenders and defined with his left leg.
Only after the second goal did Braga’s ball possession begin to translate into approaches to the area without, however, many chances occurring. The discount came in a situation that originated from a corner kick in the 41st minute. The second ball fell to Ricardo Horta, who fired a shot from outside the area that goalkeeper Rönnow could only half-stop, which was taken advantage of by Niakaté, who collected the rebound and scored.
The final minutes of the first half had belonged to Braga and in the second half soon, in the 51st minute and in a strategic play, the Portuguese team found the tie. A corner kick taken very open was received by Ricardo Horta, who touched it to the center for Bruma to score with a shot from outside the area.
After a phase in which Union could not get out of their own half, they once again created chances. The best, a point-blank shot by Kevin Volland in the 70th minute that went too central, and a shot from outside the area by Aaronson in the 93rd minute that Matheus deflected into a corner kick.
After the corner, in the last play of the game, Castro attempted a low shot from outside the area that went into the back of the net.
