He says: “I was told to be prepared for ups and downs in my health.”
Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley took to his band’s social media on Tuesday (September 19) to provide an update on his health.
After Whibley was admitted to hospital on Friday (September 15th) with pneumonia, he was allowed to return home on Sunday (September 17th) where his mother, a registered nurse, and his wife Ariana Cooper looked after him. Cooper announced this via an Instagram post.
“I am very pleased to be able to provide this update,” the post reads. “Deryck was released after treatment worked. He is now in the care of his mother, a qualified nurse, and myself. The pressure and strain on his heart and lungs have improved and he can breathe with less pain.”
The singer and guitarist has since recovered enough to give a personal update on his health. In his post, he thanks fans of the band for their “love and support.”
“I wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support,” the post begins. “Even though I’m not out of the woods yet and I’ve been told to prepare for ups and downs in my health over the next few weeks, I’m staying positive and doing my best to get through it all.”
Whibley continues: “I’m still bedridden, having trouble breathing, tight chest pains, and some pretty wild fever dreams, which probably make the whole thing somewhat entertaining. I am in the best hands and have the right medicine. I’m planning on giving my best at the ‘When We Were Young’ festival next month. That is my goal. Thank you so much and so much love ❤️ Deryck”.
Sum 41 announced their split in May 2023, after one final tour and one final album, HEAVEN :X: HELL, which is scheduled for release in 2023.
