Akanji future uncertain
National player Niklas Süle spoke to the “image‘ newspaper commented on the reasons behind his transfer decision. Borussia Dortmund had previously officially communicated that the 26-year-old would join Westphalia on a free transfer after the end of the season and thus leave FC Bayern Munich.
“In the last few days and weeks there has been a lot of talk about me and speculation about what I want to do and why. I decided a few weeks ago to play for Borussia Dortmund in the future,” Süle is quoted as saying by the newspaper. The central defender confirmed that BVB had given them full confidence in his qualities – the latter was reportedly missing in Munich.

“From the moment I first contacted me, I felt that those responsible at the club were really interested in working with me. Hans Joachim Watzke, Michael Zorc, Sebastian Kehl and Marco Rose gave me an impressive impression of the role I can play at BVB, and I had the feeling that I was wanted as a person and as a footballer. I was impressed by the way they looked after me, so I quickly knew where I was going to play in the future,” explained Süle.

Until the summer, however, his full attention will be on FC Bayern: “I’ve had a very successful time with Bayern Munich and have won everything you can win here. I would like to build on that in the coming months with these great teammates and an outstanding coach and win more titles.”
After Süle’s transfer to BVB: the future of Akanji in Dortmund is uncertain
In the course of the Süle transfer, Manuel Akanji also seems to be gaining momentum. The contract of the central defender, who switched from Basel to Westphalia in 2018 for 21.5 million euros, expires in 2023.
Most recently, BVB announced that it wanted to extend the Swiss national player’s working papers, but Akanji reportedly rejected an offer for three more years until 2026, including a salary of 7 million euros. As the “WAZ“reported on Monday evening that Dortmund had now moved away from the option of extending the contract, also against the background of the Süle transfer.
