Sudosa-Desto starts the week of truth very strongly

Visser Assen/Sudosa-Desto has had an excellent start to the week of truth. Against last year’s losing finalist, vv Utrecht, Mark Afman’s team managed to win 3-1.

With four games left in the regular competition, the Assen team took a giant step to finish among the top four teams. In the coming week, the Assen team will play twice more at home against their direct competitors, Sliedrecht Sport and VC Zwolle.

‘Fantastic that we dragged this out’

“It’s fantastic that we pulled this one out,” said a delighted Afman. “We fought great as a team. The breadth of the selection really paid off today. If one had a hard time, another handled it fantastically.” Every time Sudosa-Desto got into trouble, the team fought back.

“At those moments we started doing different things, if we were playing normally. So, for example, not at the weakest passer, but at someone else.”

Sudosa-Desto won the opening set 25-20, Utrecht countered 25-21. After which the guests from Assen took another lead: 25-23.

Sudosa-Desto strikes in the ultimate final phase

Then everything quickly pointed to a fifth and decisive set. The home team took a generous lead (12-6). Afman saw his team slowly creep closer (23-21), only to strike in the ultimate final phase: 25-23. Due to the first victory over Utrecht in the Premier League, Sudosa-Desto remains in second place behind VC Sneek.
