Sudosa-Desto misses the break to stop Sliedrecht Sport

The volleyball players of Visser Assen/Sudosa-Desto did not reward themselves against Sliedrecht Sport. The current national champion from South Holland won 3-0.

Sudosa-Desto had a very disappointing evening. Not only was the match lost in three sets, while the team had plenty of chances in all sets, passer/runner Manon Torenbeek also had to leave after two points with an ankle injury.

,,That was of course a huge downer”, coach Erwin Sikkema said. ,,Despite that, you saw again that we also got our chances against Sliedrecht Sport. Only we still lack peace at times when it is difficult for a while.”

In the first set it went wrong after a 19-18 lead (21-25). While the people of Assen were unable to capitalize on a lightning start in the set. The 8-2 lead was lost again after two blinks, which eventually led to 21-25.

,,You mustn’t forget that we qualified for the championship group with our heels over the ditch”, added Sikkema’s colleague Mark Afman. ,, That is already more than what we took into account in our first year. The team has really made great strides, but we still have to take the next step.”

“That’s why it’s important to keep the team together. Then we can continue to grow. Also today you saw that it’s in it.” For a moment it seemed in the third set that the home team could turn the game around. But this time a 23-20 lead was not enough for a set win: 24-26.
