CD Projekt, the studio behind The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077, has announced seven new games. One of them is set to take place in a completely new universe.
The developer studio from Poland still has to recover from the messed-up launch of “Cyberpunk 2077”. Nevertheless, CD Projekt is confident that it will bring a whole range of new games onto the market in the next few years. Followers of the extremely popular “The Witcher” series are said to be included. A sequel is also planned for “Cyberpunk 2077”, which recently received the big “Edgerunners” update and a Netflix series of the same name.
CD Projekt presented five new projects on Twitter and in a separate strategy update:
Orion – sequel to “Cyberpunk 2077”
Codenamed Orion, the studio plans to develop the next “cyberpunk” game to follow on from “Cyberpunk 2077.” After its launch was anything but smooth, the studio sees an opportunity to realize the potential of the dark, futuristic universe. CD Projekt’s North American studio is responsible for development.
Only recently with the release of the “Edgerunners” update and the Netflix series of the same name, “Cyberpunk 2077” has attracted new players again. Not only did the game make it into the top 10 best-selling titles on Steam. More players have also played “Cyberpunk 2077” at the same time than was ever the case with “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt”.
Polaris – new The Witcher trilogy
CD Projekt has already started pre-production for the next titles in the “The Witcher” series. It’s not supposed to be a single game, but a whole trilogy. The codename Polaris only describes the first part of the trilogy, after which two more will follow within six years. The core studio based in Warsaw is responsible. With Polaris, it wants to lay the foundations for the whole trilogy in order to simplify the development of the later titles.
The last title of the original trilogy – “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” – was released in 2015, but still ranks among the most played video games worldwide.
Canis Majoris – full The Witcher title
Independent of the new trilogy, another full-fledged The Witcher game has also been announced. However, CD Projekt is outsourcing the development to an external studio in order to be able to concentrate on the new saga.

Sirius – “The Witcher” for the masses?
The third announcement for The Witcher franchise is Sirius. The Molasses Flood, which belongs to CD Projekt, is responsible for the development. The studio emphasizes that the game differs from previous productions and aims to appeal to a much broader audience. In addition to a single-player experience, a multi-player mode is also planned. There will also be a campaign with missions and a story.
Hadar – completely new game universe
The announcement by Hadar, a completely new IP (“Intellectual Property”) seems particularly ambitious. While it had source material to draw on for The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Hadar wants to design from scratch. According to the company, the project is “in the early stages of the creative process”. Production has not yet started, instead the foundations for the new universe are being laid first. Board member Michal Nowakowski says: “We started playing with the idea a few years ago. An early phase of conceptual work has started in 2021 and – for the first time in our history – CD Projekt RED is designing the IP entirely itself.”
