Successful art market in Menen
A year ago, the art market was canceled at the last minute because of heavy storms, but today the weather is nice. “With about seventy registrations, everything is fully booked. The artists come from West and East Flanders and some Dutch people are also present. The art on offer is very diverse, with disciplines such as sculpture, painting, woodworking, glass processing and graphics. The stalls are located in the Oude Leielaan between the Poststraat and the Badhuis. The market starts at 10 am and ends at 5 pm,” said chairman Patrick Lepoutre.
Edge animation
The art market is not only aimed at art lovers. Anyone who just wants to spend a pleasant afternoon in the green surroundings of the Oude Leielaan is also welcome. “We have provided peripheral animation. The Hot Swing Collective with Karel Waignein provides a musical atmosphere in the Bois de Boulogne city park. Magician Filip Van Caeneghem pops up here and there along the art course with magic and illusion tricks. Young people can get creative with graffiti together with Jonathan Jow. Restaurant Karel provides snacks and drinks,” says Lepoutre.
Also in September
The Art Markett is part of Boulevard Solar, an initiative of the municipal services, Cultuurcentrum De Steiger and partners that offers an alternative program all summer long. In addition to the first Sunday of July, there is also an art market on the first Saturday of September. During the Wieltjesfeesten it completely takes over the Bruggestraat between the Donkerstraat and the Parkstraat.
