The end of the Sander van Dijk era at Hovocubo is coming into view. The coach of the Hoorn futsal club has indicated that he will stop after the coming season. With that, after 17 years, an employment contract with the club that he has grown into a top club in the Netherlands will come to an end.
Van Dijk is entering his last season as the person with final responsibility for last season’s number two. For various reasons, the 51-year-old Horinees thinks it has been nice. Van Dijk has been at the helm of Hovocubo since 2007. When he joined, the club played four levels lower. Gradually the road was raised and under his leadership Hovocubo won four national titles, three cups and four times the Super Cup. In 2022, Hovocubo reached the last 16 in the Champions League. No Dutch club had ever succeeded in doing that.

He even resigns immediately from his duties as assistant national coach of Miguel Andres Moreno. He was recently offered a contract extension by the KNVB, but he turned it down. “All in all, the lack of vision and policy does not suit Van Dijk, but so does the top sport experience of players who cannot commit themselves 100% to the national team by canceling training or even a match too easily,” says can be read on the Hovocubo website.
Suspension
In the denouement of the futsal season, many unpleasant things have happened around Hovocubo. In the semi-final against Tigers Roermond bottles thrown on the field, were riots and the public came onto the field. Van Dijk was suspended for a match and even stayed home for one final match due to private circumstances. He was only present at the decisive final. The club is still furious at the decision of the KNVB and speaks quite firmly.
“With the above writing, the fear is present that KNVB will look at Van Dijk and Hovocubo with a magnifying glass next season, referees may target club and trainer, but the truth must also emerge. The opinion of the man who is by far the most successful Dutch trainer cannot possibly be ignored, hopefully the policymakers in Zeist will wake up soon… ”
