As of March 1, people who are involved in legal proceedings with each other can use a subsidy for mediation in their case if they are not eligible for legal aid.

Paying litigants who are referred to mediation by the judiciary can use this form of mediation free of charge for the first 2.5 hours. Nothing changes for parties with an addition. They can go through a mediation process free of charge with an addition.

The starting contribution is intended to enable people to experience for themselves whether mediation can be a suitable way for them to resolve a conflict. In that case, finances are no obstacle to a first acquaintance with this form of mediation.

More information about this can be found on the website of the Legal Aid Board: Introduction of mediation start-up contribution from 1 March 2023.
