THEhe world has certainly not stopped at the feast of looks seen at Cannes 2023. The send goes on and style errors move elsewhere, still on a red carpet – that of a big budget film – or at the entrance of a television studio, for an informal interview during the daytime. And unlike a festival that creates some stylistic unity, a première here and a cocktail represent the usual, fabulous, chaos of colors and clothes, very right when suggested by a stylist, and controversial when reviewed through the paparazzi.
Style errors: the looks of Sydney Sweeney, Heidi Klum and Virginia Raffaele
Sydney Sweeney – Collegiate. She became famous for her role as Cassie in Euphoria, the series in which the most stable character is just out of rehab or about to go. His is both delusional and mythomaniac, a kind of school-age Beatrice Dalle always very naked. That must be why Sydney looks are often half covered up and half not. In this as a college girl, drowned in tube cuffs and the tragedy of a striped pleat like an awningcould go directly from Today Show at an interview for a management position at Tiffany’s. A plan B is good for everyone.
Heidi Klum – 80s. You love her very much, also because, darnit everything is fine with her (then one wonders why stylists use these special beings called models: is it because the clothes fall on them without serious defects?). You love Heidi all the more for that model that Moana and Cicciolina called “rolling shutter”, including gloves, and it is not necessary to explain why. Certainly the two pornstars would never have dreamed of going out in fluo like a highlighter dispenser.
Lucy Boynton – Draculasque. Nerd and slavish actress, Lucy went to the premiere of Chevalier – story of one of the first eighteenth-century composers and musicians of African ancestry, Joseph Boulogne Chevalier de Saint-George – rightly in antique look (in the film does Marie Antoinette). But, as they say on the buses and in the sentimental practical manuals of style with hardcover and black market graduation price, playing it down in a metal finish. Since ancient yes, mothballed never. In Shibuya and Lucca Comics & Games it would stop traffic for the resulthere makes me want to see again Interview with the vampire (much to the director’s delight, I guess).
Virginia Raffaele – Tai Chi. Shoes are important, you can tell by the eye. Those bucklers who look so much like Captain Hook’s half-heel deceive no one, they smell like serious investment. The rest of the look – candid and soft – is instead a declaration of freedom like that of Bryce Dallas Howard in Jurassic World. If she was free to run from dinosaurs in stiletto heels, who’s to stop Virginia from doing Tai Chi wearing slingbacks?
