Also from Copenhagen
As expected, runner-up Sturm Graz signed William Böving. The Danish winger comes from FC Copenhagen, has signed a contract until 2026 and is set to replace the record-breaking Rasmus Höjlund in Graz. Spicy here: Höjlund and Böving were still teammates in the Danish capital in the 2021/22 season and Graz were already interested in Böving before Höjlund signed. Back then, the 19-year-old was still a regular at Copenhagen, while Höjlund played a minor role and was the cheaper alternative. In the meantime, however, the tide has turned and Böving has only been in the starting XI for FCK once this season.
With a reported transfer fee of 2.2 million euros, Böving is the third most expensive newcomer in Sturm history. For the second time in 2022, Sturm will transfer an amount in the millions to the Danish champions, Höjlund cost just under two million euros. In contrast to his predecessor, Böving mostly comes from the outside and is also significantly smaller with a height of 1.76 m. The Denmark U21 team player has scored five goals in 44 games for Copenhagen.
Managing Director Andreas Schicker is delighted with the new addition: “William had been on our radar for a long time, and now his commitment has also worked out. We see him as an offensive all-rounder who brings dynamism, speed, very good technique and finishing power. At the age of 19, William is again a promising future stock in our ranks and with his decision for SK Sturm he proves that we have now made a name for ourselves throughout Europe as an excellent platform for promising talent. I am absolutely convinced that in William we have again been able to win an extremely exciting and highly talented player for SK Sturm who, thanks to the excellent work of our coaching team around Christian Ilzer, can reach the next level in his development.”
