Stunt tennis player Van Rijthoven stays out of US Open

Tennis player Tim van Rijthoven also failed to make a stunt in the second round of the US Open. The number 117 in the world won the first set against the Norwegian Casper Ruud, but had to leave the victory in four sets to the number 5 of the placement list. It became 6-7 (4) 6-4 6-4 6-4 for Ruud.

The 25-year-old Van Rijthoven made his debut in the main tournament of the US Open. In his debut at grand slam level, he made it to the fourth round at Wimbledon this summer, beating two seeded players. At the US Open, the number 3 in the Netherlands, who caused a sensation in the first round by surviving seven match points, did not surprise again.

After 2 hours and 47 minutes, Ruud used his first match point with a forehand winner. The 23-year-old number 7 in the world finished it off with a love game, after which he received the congratulations from the disappointed Dutchman.

After a slightly lesser start, Van Rijthoven took the opening set with convincing tennis. In the tiebreak he imposed his will on Ruud and won the set with a devastating set.

In the second set, the Dutchman got two breakpoints with a 4-3 lead, but he was unable to push through. Ruud equalized and won the set with two love games in a row. In the remainder, Van Rijthoven – who hit twenty aces himself – was able to contribute less and less to Ruud’s service games, who no longer handed in his serve.

Ruud lost to Botic van de Zandschulp in the second round of the US Open last year, who eventually made it to the quarterfinals.

Van Rijthoven had a difficult preparation for the US Open. He did not play for six weeks due to a back injury. Van Rijthoven will now focus on the Davis Cup Finals, where the Netherlands will take on Great Britain, Canada and Kazakhstan in mid-September in Glasgow.

Due to the elimination of Van Rijthoven, Gijs Brouwer is the only remaining Dutchman in singles. He will meet the Italian Lorenzo Musetti on Thursday.
