Students in former dome prison impressed: “Studyrooms in cells is genius”

It was a big dream of a group of Haarlemmers to breathe new life into the old dome prison with students. And that has now really come true. The first batch of students started the introduction of their studies this week. And during the tour of the monumental building, all their expectations were fulfilled.

The plan for an educational stronghold in the huge building was launched in 2016. Not everyone immediately embraced the plan. But the initiators, including Timo Timmerman, stood their ground and at the end of January the doors opened after a few years of renovation work finally open again. Now Timmerman is guiding a group of students, who will start one of the four bachelor’s degree programs next week.

They are young people from 27 countries. A few of them come from the region, such as Kai from Haarlem and Bryanna from Schagen. Next year, director Timmerman of the Haarlem Campus hopes to welcome more regional members, who are equally impressed by the beloved Koepel in Haarlem.
