students from an ‘insti’ in Barcelona write a book of stories based on the graffiti on the toilet

Rosa Bojans, anagram of Joan Brossa, the name of her institute, is the brossiana ‘author’ of ‘Rere la porta’, compilation of stories created by twenty students from 4th of ESO of Horta-Guinardó, in Barcelona. Stories with titles like ‘I’m not in control’, ‘Who are you?’, ‘Guilty?’, ‘Are you here or not’ with a common denominator: be thought of from a phrase written on the door of a toilet.

Stories that deal themes that run through the lives of these teenagers: what it’s like to suffer or perpetrate bullying or what it’s like to endure pressure or the fear of not fitting in. Written in Catalan –the other great common denominator of all the stories–, ‘Rere la porta’ It is the fruit of ‘globalized work’ during this first quarter course has converted these 20 kids from the Joan Brossa not only in writers, but also in style editors, layout designers, illustrators, printer’s apprentices and journalists.

In fact, this report comes from an email from Aina Xarles Franco, one of the students in the group that is part of the dissemination commission. The term “globalized work” is literal, and this group of teenagers have not only given birth to the book – and they have self-publishedlooking for quotes and paying each one of them five euros per copy–, but they have also been in charge of making it known.

Mixture of knowledge

The ‘globalized jobs’ are an experience promoted by the Department of Education to introduce subjects that mix knowledge from various areas to learn from a project with the help of an external entity; in this case, Asterisc Agents.

“You know them with a face, which is the one they want to show you, and there are people, like Víctor, who is a very reader and I already sensed that they would write a story of the same level, but you don’t expect it from others because they keep it to themselves, and here they have gotten very carried away, They denote a sensitivity…“, he gets excited Muñoz – in addition to his Catalan teacher, journalist, editor and proofreader Clandestina Editorial–, who has made a final edition of all the stories. They did the first among themselves, exchanging works with each other.

In addition to the successful cover design – a montage with a bathroom door with the names of the stories painted on it – the boys are also responsible for the illustrations and they will be from the presentation of the book, who want organize for Sant Jordi.

In addition to the copy for the authors, they will 10 for the school library so that they stay in the center.

Avoid temptations

Proud of their work, the students explain with a smile that what they liked most about the project is that “I was quite free, “Everyone could write about what they wanted,” they agree. Some stories that they largely wrote in high school to avoid possible temptations to use ChatGPT.

In addition to a thoughtful illustration, each text is accompanied by a biography of its author written by a high school teacher. One of the tasks was to ask the teacher who has had the greatest impact on them or with whom they have created the best bond to write about them.

We want to continue enjoying this Hugo thoughtful and generous.” He smiles, modestly.

In the eyes of the Catalan teacher, the best part of the experience has been the desire to take advantage of the opportunity of the vast majority of the group (her godmother Asterisk Agents has been the writer Laia Fabregas). “They have undressed a lot with some texts with a great sensitivity“explains the teacher. As she points out in the prologue, “what unites all the stories in the book is more than a graffiti on the toilet door: it is the will to explore the human soul“.
