Students draw attention to mental health on Blue Monday: “You are not alone”

At least 180 students ran the Blue Monday Run in Amsterdam’s Vondelpark this afternoon to draw attention to mental health. For example, one in three young people indicate that they have mental complaints. According to organizer Isa van Oijen, there is also a big taboo about it.

Blue Monday, or Blue Monday, is supposedly the most depressing day of the year. To get through this day well, the Amsterdam students run 5 or 10 kilometers in the Vondelpark. Money is raised to improve mental health.

Breaking taboo

Psychological complaints are the number 1 cause of death among Dutch young people: “It is never fun to tell that you are not doing well. It is also difficult because you may feel misunderstood, while more people understand you than you think. You are not only.”

Exercising should encourage students to keep their mental health strong. “I have also been in a slump at times. I noticed that because you start exercising and doing what you really enjoy, you end up in a positive circle again,” says student Floris van der Wal.

A total of almost 135 thousand euros was raised.
