Students Dr Nassau College are going to bake and stack pancakes for the world record

“Research and development requires you to do projects,” explains Nino Huizinga while stirring the pan. Together with Jesse Dijkstra, he takes care of the batter. “For the new project, the intention was to do something impossible. And we chose to break a world record. Then we came up with the idea of breaking the world record for stacking and baking pancakes.”

They looked up online how many pancakes to bake and stack. According to the students, the old record is in the name of the Efteling: 242 pancakes. In Norg they want to bake at least 350 pancakes. The pile must be at least 6 feet high. To get that many, they have to work hard.

Meanwhile, Eva-Sofie Elferink is standing with a pan in her hands. Time and again she ensures that the treats are nicely rounded. She is one of the three who bakes. “I like it because you are busy with your group all the time,” she says.

The well-oiled machine continues. The last batter is put in the pan around two o’clock in the afternoon. In total, the students baked 395 pancakes. A record, they say. Only the stacking will not go smoothly. The eighty centimeters have been achieved, but will it be possible to get the pile more than twice as high? That’s waiting…
