After the violent altercation between a high school teacher and two students (14, 15) at the Ernst-Abbe-Gymnasium on Sonnenallee, the two young people were suspended. According to BZ information, the teacher is on sick leave.

As reported, a masked student (14) waved a Palestine flag in the schoolyard on Monday. When a teacher (61) asked the boy not to do this, an argument broke out. According to the police, a 15-year-old is said to have shown solidarity with his classmate and hit the teacher in the head.

The teacher is said to have defended himself with a slap in the face. The 15-year-old is said to have then kicked him in the stomach.

The state security agency is now investigating the teenager and the teacher for mutual physical harm. According to a police spokesman, both will be questioned in the near future. This can also be done in writing, said the spokesman. The 14-year-old is listed as a witness.

According to the responsible Senate authority, the school immediately set up a crisis team and the school supervision, district and police were called in. The process is currently being examined in detail and intensive surveys are underway.

Martin Klesmann, spokesman for the Senate Department for Education: “Teachers must not be aggressive or even violent towards students.” The case could also be assessed under disciplinary law. “Our top priority is to ensure school peace. We will not tolerate condoning the terrorist attacks on Israel in our schoolyards.”

In response to the incident at the high school, all Berlin school administrators were informed by email that the Hamas attack “will employ large parts of the Berlin student body.” It is to be feared that manifest or latent Israel-related anti-Semitism plays a role among some students.

The school management was instructed to pass on this information not only to those responsible for the social science subjects, but also to the entire teaching staff.

It is still uncertain whether the two affected students will be able to attend class again on Monday.
