Student Corps wants to polish a negative image with a festive parade

The Amsterdam Student Corps is 170 years old. In honor of this 34th anniversary, members of ASC and AVSV gathered this morning for a festive procession from the Oude Turfmarkt to the Westerkerk. Several former members, some of whom had graduated for over forty years, also returned for the anniversary.

Many members took it easy in recent days, because after the parade there are still ten days of festivities. The atmosphere is also good early in the morning: “I’m having a great time. Nice parade, the weather is nice today, so it’s perfect”, says a member.

The student body has not always been positive in the news. Last year the hazing was interrupted due to reports of unethical behavior and students were even injured. “We know that we have been portrayed in a very negative way, but that’s why a day like today is also nice to show the outside world that we really stand for unity,” says Iza van As, one of the organizers of the procession.

In order to emphasize these positive sides of the association, the lustrum is dominated by the theme ‘Invictica’, which means invincible. “It is the strong bond and togetherness of the members that makes our association so invincible,” according to the organization.
