The Buenos Aires government resolved to increase the cost of the Vehicle Technical Verification starting in February, although later, in a second stage, it will reach a 131% increase in the month of May, according to what was proposed by the Office of Transport and Public Works of the City.
The cars will go from paying $4,024 to $7,242 in February, and $9,296 from May. Regarding motorcycles, they will go from paying $1,513 to paying $2,723 in February and $3,495 from May.
The VTV is mandatory for vehicles that are more than three years old or more than 60 thousand kilometers of use, and for motorcycles that are more than one year old.
In addition to an increase in VTV, it also metered parking fee will increase: the hour will cost from $45 to $81 from February, and a progressive rate will be added in the area with the highest turnover of vehicles: the first hour will cost $81, the second $105.30, the third $136.90 and the fourth and all successive ones, $178. Such provision is provided for by law.
As reported by the Buenos Aires government, said rate update is related to adjustments necessary for the operation of services, and are also closely linked to the increase in inflation in the country.
In November the Consumer Price Index (INDEC) presented its lowest variation since February in November: 4.9% monthly. But according to various estimates from private surveys, inflation in December will be higher than 5%, a new increase. The last time the VTV value was updated was in January 2022, when inflation was 3.9%.
