It’s been a long, long time: almost 30 years ago Bayer Leverkusen celebrate their last title by winning the DFB Cup. Since then, the Werkself have often come close, but they never managed to hit the big time. Five second places in the SoccerBundesliga and losing three finals earned Bayer the nickname “Vizekusen”.
This title curse should now be ended – and realistically speaking, the Rhinelanders still have one option: Europe league. Although the bookmakers give Leverkusen maximum outsider chances, there are definitely reasons that should give Bayer fans hope.
Seoane is not a vice coach
First and foremost there would be Gerardo Seoane. The Swiss always want to win. He sets an example every day without putting his team under pressure. The result: Leverkusen impresses with speed, discipline and technique this season.
In addition, Seoane has achieved a significant increase in some players: Attack Artists Moussa Diaby about has recognized that there is also a reverse gear. Defense boss Jonathan Tah is probably having his best season in years and the double six with Robert Andrich and Kerem Demirbay is working extremely well.
