It rained on Friday evening with strikes at the matches between Helmond Sport and TOP Oss and the home match of FC Den Bosch against MVV Maastricht. In both cases the game was stopped three times. In Helmond, the last three minutes were even played without an audience.
Things went wrong for the first time in Helmond after Michael Chacón’s 1-0. Referee Laurens Gerrets was forced to stop the match because something was thrown onto the field. About ten minutes later the game continued, but that was short-lived. This time, beer was thrown towards the linesman from the box with TOP Oss supporters.
Beer throwers caught
According to the regulations of the KNVB, a match is permanently stopped at the second interruption, unless the throwers are caught. The latter was the case, which meant that the players were allowed onto the field again.
But once again the final whistle was not reached. In the 90th minute, TOP Oss scored the equalizer, shortly afterwards something was thrown onto the field again. After consultation, it was decided to play out the three minutes of injury time, but in an empty stadium. The good news for the supporters who behaved: they no longer missed goals. It remained 1-1.
Same misery in Den Bosch
Also a little further away there was a hit in the match between FC Den Bosch and MVV Maastricht. The game was also stopped there three times. Yet the players, and here also the supporters, were given another chance. Four times it turned out to be a charm in this case. The match ended in a 3-2 victory for Den Bosch.
