Stricter MOT for diesels with a particulate filter postponed for half a year

The stricter MOT rules for diesels with a particulate filter will come into effect six months later, State Secretary Vivianne Heijnen (Infrastructure) writes in a letter to the House of Representatives. Not enough APK measuring stations are ready to perform the so-called particle test, so the measure will be postponed until January 1, 2023.

The test measures, among other things, particulate matter, but special equipment is required for this. Not all measuring stations have this yet. The RAI Association writes in a response that there are global supply problems and that therefore not all stations are equipped with the devices.

The Netherlands is one of the first countries in the world to introduce the test, Heijnen writes. In total, about 1.5 million vehicles are to be tested.
