Dad-to-be Austin Richard Post, aka Post Malone, has released his new single, “Cooped Up.” The track is a collaboration with the American rapper Roddy Ricch and is already the second release from the forthcoming album TWELVE CARAT TOOTHACHE.
“Cooped Up” is a foretaste of the upcoming album
“I’m about to pull up/Hit switch, pull curtain/And I’ve been waitin’ so long/Now I gotta re-surface,” read Malone’s lyrics on the track. The lyrical announcement that he now wants to “appear again” gives us a foretaste of his new record and announces big things. It is unclear whether the feeling of being locked up, which is sung about on the new single, may relate to Corona or perhaps a musical break. It’s been three years since his current album HOLLYWOOD’S BLEEDING was released.
The music video shows the 26-year-old smoking and wearing glittering jewelry in a poorly lit room. The suit that the singer and rapper is wearing is thought to have been designed by one of the luxury designers mentioned in the text, “Prada, Miyake Louie, Bottega [oder] Tommy”.

Post Malone is a Roddy Ricch fan
The single is the second collaboration with Ricch and follows the remix of “wow”, in which the 23-year-old rapper and producer Tyga were also involved. Roddy Ricch also backed Malone as a support act on his European tour. He also incorporated this fact into the lyrics of his rap part. In “Cooped Up” he thanks him for the “sold out arenas” that he “could never have dreamed of”.
Malone also told Apple Music 1 that he’s a big supporter of the newcomer: “He’s just an amazing guy and a born performer, singer and lyricist. He’s just got it and it’s so great just to see him grow.” The joint single would have “came naturally”, the two would have simply known what they wanted to say.
Post Malone recently released One Right Now with The Weeknd. His fourth studio album TWELVE CARAT TOOTHACHE will be released on June 3rd.
