It was announced in December 2021 and it has now been released: Daniel Johns has released his second solo album FUTURENEVER. His debut TALK was released in 2015, seven years ago.
Daniel Johns wrote rock history with his post-grunge band Silverchair: together with his school friends Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou, he founded it in 1992 at the age of 13 under the name Innocent Criminals in Newcastle, Australia. Their debut FROGSTOMP went platinum in several countries in 1995. Four more albums followed. Since 2011, Silverchair have been in a so-called hiatus, a permanent hiatus. The band has not officially broken up. Silverchair have won 21 ARIA Music Awards during their career, making them the record holders in Australian music awards history.
Most recently, Daniel Johns, who was married to Natalie Imbruglia from 2004 to 2008, made himself known on the podcast Who Is Daniel Johns. In it he spoke with Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), Imbruglia, Kevin Parker (Tame Impala) and Tom DeLonge (Ex-blink-182), among others, about his struggles with anorexia, depression and mental health in general and specifically.
The release of FUTURENEVER comes at a time that is unfavorable for Johns, but apparently through his own fault: On March 23, 2022, he caused a car accident while under the influence of alcohol. He then announced that he would go into rehabilitation:
Therefore, Johns does not want to and is not allowed to comment on this and his current condition until June 22, 2022, as his team reports on his Instagram account:
