Stray dog saves life of baby who was dumped in garbage bag | Abroad

In the Lebanese city of Tripoli, a stray dog has emerged as the hero of the day by rescuing an abandoned baby. The girl, who is a few months old at most, was covered in bruises and was reportedly dumped in a garbage bag.

The incident took place in the outskirts of Tripoli last Wednesday. A passerby raised the alarm when he heard a baby crying. Soon the man noticed that the screeching was coming from a garbage bag that a stray dog was carrying in its mouth. The passer-by informed the emergency services and the baby, a girl no more than a few months old, was taken to hospital.

The girl, who has bruises all over her body, is in stable condition. It is not yet known by whom and when exactly she was left behind.

“Deliberately dumped in a dangerous area”

“When people don’t want their children anymore, they usually drop them off at an orphanage or a police station,” journalist Ghassan Rifi told Arab News. But in this case, it appears that the baby was deliberately left in a dangerous area for the dogs to devour, it sounds.

“The city has tried several times to poison the stray dogs, but animal welfare organizations disagree and advocate protecting the animals.” And perhaps rightly so, since the rescue of the girl in this case is precisely due to a stray dog. Once the baby has recovered, she will be given up for adoption or placed in an orphanage.

The incident has sparked outrage on social media. According to many, the incident proves that some animals have more compassion than humans.

Tripoli, Lebanon’s second-largest city, has the highest poverty rate in a country where about 80 percent of the population is poor as a result of the severe economic crisis that began in 2019. As the country sinks further into poverty, more and more children are left behind.
