How much strawberry is in the store’s strawberry jams? The comparison reveals large differences in berry concentrations. Some of the jams have more sugar than berries.

How much strawberry jam contains strawberry is essential information when buying jams. Still, at the time of purchase, you don’t always look at how many berries or fruits the jar at hand contains.
We compared how much strawberry jams from regular grocery stores contain strawberry. It turned out that the jam with the most berries has more than twice as many berries as the jam with the least berries. The rest of the weight of the jam usually consists mostly of sugar. The three jams in the comparison have even more sugar than the berry itself.
The highest berry content was I got it in strawberry jam, which contains 80 grams of berries per hundred grams. I got it strawberry jam was also the most expensive in the comparison. A 320-gram jar of jam cost 5.69 euros at the time of purchase, which is 17.78 per kilogram.
There were the least amount of berries I’m kidding in strawberry jam. Pirkka strawberry jam contains only 35 grams of strawberries per hundred grams, which is more than half as much as I got it in jam. Pirka’s strawberry jam was the third cheapest in terms of price per kilo. At the time of purchase, the 400-gram jar cost 2.70 euros, or 6.73 per kilo.
The cheapest jams in the comparison were Rainbow’s strawberry jam and the Lidl brand Maribel’s strawberry jam, the price of which is 3.98–4.10 euros per kilo. Rainbow jam contains 40 percent of its weight in berries. Maribel’s jam consists of half strawberries.

Usually, in jams, about half of its weight consists of berries. The rest is something else, like sugar or coagulants like pectin. Pectin is naturally found in semi-ripe fruits and berries, such as apples, cranberries and currants. Strawberries also show some of it.
The jams from Hommanäs and Den Gamle Fabrik had the least amount of sugar. They contain 26 and 29 grams of sugar per 100 grams. In addition to sugar, Den Gamle Fabrik’s jam also contains a sweetener.
