Straubing concedes first defeat in the Champions League

Two days after their successful debut, the Straubing Tigers suffered their first defeat in the Champions League.

The fourth-placed table last season in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) lost 6-1 (1-2, 0-2, 0-2) in their second group game at Swedish champions Färjestad BK on Sunday.

On Friday, Lower Bavaria won their first CHL game 4-0 at twelve-time Polish champions Comarch Kraków. Travis St. Denis gave the visitors an early lead (6′), but the favorite then turned the game around.

The Grizzlies Wolfsburg recorded their first victory with 7:2 (3:0, 1:1, 3:1) against Olimpija Ljubljana. Luis Schinko (2), Darren Archibald, Spencer Machacek, Dustin Jeffrey, Nolan Zajac and Dominik Bittner scored for Lower Saxony, who lost 5-2 to the Swiss champions EV Zug.

For Straubing it is a delayed premiere: The Tigers had already qualified for the Champions League in 2020, but the season was canceled due to the corona pandemic. The third opponent in Group F is the Austrian representative Villacher SV.
