Ski racer Linus Straßer has his eye on the “podium” in the last World Cup slalom before the Olympic Games. At the floodlit race in Schladming before the finale (8:45 p.m.), the Munich driver is only 0.15 seconds behind the podium in fifth place.
“I did exactly what I set out to do,” said Straßer, who made a small mistake right at the start. “There could have been a bit more, it wasn’t quite smooth, especially on the steep slopes,” he said, “but it was a cool run.” In the second round he wants “to pull something down again, then it looks pretty good”.
Strasser is 0.82 seconds short of Sweden’s best time, Kristoffer Jakobsen. Vancouver Olympic champion Giuliano Razzoli is second, 0.58 seconds back. Third are the young Norwegian Lucas Braathen and Clement Noel from France (+0.67).
