Maya Hawke’s album “Moss” is due out on September 23 – on July 18 she already released the music video for “Thérèse”, the first single from her forthcoming record.
The NSFW video, directed by Brady Corbet, sees the ‘Stranger Things’ actress on a nude adventure under the moonlight – the scene culminating in an orgy in the woods. Just before the guitar solo kicks into high gear, the group is spotted by the police and taken into custody. Hawke leads the nude group and bravely faces the camera during the final verse.
Speaking to Dazed, she said: “Brady saw the video clearly in his head, but I can’t imagine he had any idea how well his idea fitted what I wanted the song to show and express … feeling that loneliness is the worst, until you realize it’s much better than bad company; about how free we are as kids, and then when we hit puberty and the culture crushes us and we start trying to be like everyone else instead of being ourselves.”
Hawke is unconcerned when it comes to the reactions to her video. She goes on to explain, “I hope people like it or hate it or whatever. I hope this makes them feel something other than shame, self-loathing and loneliness.
