It was short, but intense. A storm swept across the capital around 7:30 p.m. early Monday evening. A Ford driver was lucky in misfortune. An S-Bahn derailed after hitting a branch.
Not only did rain fall from the sky, a strong wind also swept through the city. For some trees that was probably too much.
Several trees or branches broke off in hurricane gusts throughout the city and fell down. In some cases, entire trees were uprooted, as in the Volkspark Friedrichshain.
It is not yet known whether people were injured in the storm. Around 200 emergency calls were made to the fire brigade.
There were also disruptions to the S-Bahn. A train ran over a branch between the Prenzlauer Allee and Schönhauser Allee stations and derailed.
Train traffic is interrupted on several routes: on the S2 between Blankenburg and Gesundbrunnen/Nordbahnhof, on the S5 between Hoppegarten and Fredersdorf and on lines S41, S42 and S8 between Pankow/Gesundbrunnen and Greifswalder Straße. Nothing runs between Adlershof and Altglienicke on the S9 and S45. The S3 only runs every 20 minutes, the S85 not, it said.
Trees also fell in the park on Pankstrasse in Wedding. A tree fell on a Ford. Fortunately, the driver was not injured.
A massive tree fell over in Thurneysserstrasse, damaging two vehicles. A tree fell on a bus and bus stop on Franklinstrasse, but it is not yet known whether there were any injuries.
Numerous trees also fell in the zoo. The weather damage is now gradually being processed by the fire brigade.
