The Scheldestroom Water Board in Zeeland is prepared for the high seawater level that is expected in the night from Friday to Saturday. At Vlissingen, a water level of 3.34 meters above NAP is expected around 03.30 am, while storm Eunice will also push the water further. The high water plan for Scheldt flows comes into effect when the water level at Vlissingen rises above 3.30 meters above NAP.
Employees are ready for necessary clean-up work and urgent inspections. Rubbish washed up can cause damage to flood defences. The Panoramaweg in Breskens will be closed on Friday evening. That will probably last until Saturday morning.
In West Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, near Vrouwenpolder and near the dunes of Kop van Schouwen, the shelf provides for a lot of dune erosion. Storm Corrie from two weeks ago had already caused damage there. The board keeps a close eye on the rows of dunes, but does not think that water safety will be compromised. New damage is expected. Scheldt flows will check on Friday afternoon whether all denominations in dikes and quays are closed.
