Storm Henk has made its presence felt, but it appears that it has not caused any major damage. The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute has ended code orange that was issued in the northwest during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.
Another stormy day is also expected for Wednesday with strong winds in the coastal provinces and a chance of heavy gusts. It temporarily storms on the northwest coast. In the morning the wind decreases. There are some showers and in the afternoon there is a chance of a heavier shower with thunder, especially in the south. It will be 9 to 11 degrees.
Fire brigades were called out in various parts of the country on Tuesday evening to remove trees blown down by the strong winds. Train traffic was also disrupted on a number of routes. Rijkswaterstaat warned road users to take dangerous situations into account.
Code orange
Code orange applied since 10 p.m. for the provinces of North Holland and Friesland and for the IJsselmeer and the Wadden area.
“In the northern coastal area, (very) heavy wind gusts of 80-110 km/hour were measured. Elsewhere, heavy wind gusts of 75-90 km/h occurred.”
The fire brigade in Meppel was busy with flooding of a parking lot and some gardens and garages on the Vliegenpad. A car ended up in the water on the Harlingerstraatweg in Leeuwarden. No one was injured.
Trains and dikes
The storm also caused damage in the south of the country. In Zeeland a tree blew down on the N654 near Noordgouwe, in Vlissingen the wall plate of a house came loose and a plate on a terrace blew loose. In The Hague, five cars were damaged by a branch that broke off a tree and scaffolding blew loose, according to Omroep West.
A tree fell on the track on the train route between Utrecht Central Station and Tiel on Tuesday evening. As a result, there were no trains running for a while. Trains to Rotterdam were also temporarily stopped due to fallen trees.
The N307, the dike between Lelystad and Enkhuizen, was closed for some time due to a malfunction at the Houtrib locks in Lelystad. The road reopened just before midnight.
