Storm Ciarán leaves at least 3 dead in Italy, images show how heavy rainfall floods streets | Abroad

In Montemurlo, 25 kilometers from Florence, two people were killed when a river overflowed its banks, according to the governor of Tuscany Eugenio Giani. A third person died in Rosignano on the Tuscan coast.

According to Giani, Tuscany has never recorded so much rain in such a short time. He advises residents to stay at home and flee to higher floors in places where water enters. The governor has declared a regional state of emergency.

The Italian news agency ANSA reported the death of an 85-year-old man in Prato earlier in the evening. The man was probably unable to flee in time when the water level of the Bisenzio River rose and the water entered his home.

Ciarán also caused flooding elsewhere in the Prato. For example, the basement and ground floor of a hospital were flooded and cars were swept away by the water.

Ciarán has also claimed lives elsewhere in Europe. In our country, a 5-year-old child of Ukrainian descent and a 64-year-old German tourist died in Ghent. Two people were also killed in France. One person each died in the Netherlands, Germany and Spain.
