In recent years, Copenhagen Fashion Week has established itself as one of the hottest fashion weeks, where reserved Scandi style meets funky looks with colorful layers – on and off the catwalk. For FW24, visitors opted for warm coats, strong colors and cuddly companions.
Fluffy and colorful
In true Bibo style – the big yellow bird from Sesame Street – several people showed up in Copenhagen with colorful plush coats that ranged from pastel pink to bright pink to strong yellow.
The mostly long coats or wide jackets became the key piece of the look, especially thanks to the choice of color, which was usually combined with casual trousers and sneakers, but also tone-on-tone with tights and heels.
Plush companions
Dogs and bitches are becoming increasingly popular companions for visitors to fashion weeks, which are of course also a popular subject for street style photographers. If you don’t want to put your four-legged friends in this potentially stressful situation or don’t have one, you can also use a plush version like Hello Kitty and Co. As a pendant for your handbag, they are the perfect Chihuahua replacement, but can also replace the bag itself. The practical thing about it: The wearers have all kinds of options for which animal they choose – it can also be a polar bear or tiger and without any stress with the animal protection organization PETA.
Fur coats
Things are completely different with the current fur coat trend, where some of the wearers of course also resort to vegan or used alternatives.
The fluffy coat, which has its origins in the fur of animals such as foxes and minks – the breeding of which has been permitted again in Denmark since the beginning of 2023 – and is currently gaining popularity again thanks to the so-called ‘Mob Wife’ trend, seemed to do so in Copenhagen To be the garment of the season.
As with the plush coat, the jacket became a key piece. Wearers usually combined brown and beige tones to match the fur. Dark sunglasses and heeled boots complete the look.
Bows in the hair
Bows in hair have been a popular trend for a long time and can be used in many ways for braids and in the form of clips. This season the motto seems to be “bigger and more is more”, as visitors are wearing a series of bows in different sizes and colors in their mostly strictly tied back hair.
Modern 70s
Bows also play a role among fans of the 70s, but here they are more of a central detail of a blouse. The Copenhagen women gave the 70s style a modern touch à la Gucci under former creative director Alessandro Michele – only much more reserved in the choice of colors.
What is important here is the complete look, from the bangs and the square sunglasses with pink lenses to the knee-length socks in strappy shoes. When choosing fabrics, wearers rely on solid materials such as denim for a jacket-skirt two-piece set or leather for a long coat that is combined with jeans. But you can also show a little skin with transparent fabrics and a mini skirt.
Around the head and collar
The following trend is less about the wearer putting themselves in danger and more about showcasing their head and collar. The choice fell on a particularly eye-catching collar that goes over the shoulders and can also have a hood. This key piece can be part of a top styled under a jacket or a separate piece. The selection ranges from subtle bows to colorfully patterned knitted versions.
Stork legs
The combination of red shoes and matching tights was also striking in Copenhagen. With this combination, which is reminiscent of red stork legs, the type of shoe – whether with a heel or flat and with straps – doesn’t matter. The main thing is that the shoes and tights are tone-on-tone. If the rest of the look is not color-coordinated, the street styles tend to rely on reserved colors. Thick coats are also worn.
