Stores of JD Sports’ Dutch subsidiary will be closed

The doors of the Perry Sport, Aktiensport and Sprinter branches will be closed on Tuesday. Many of the branches have already been closed, but the last six are now following suit, insolvency administrator Kees van de Meent told the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

The stores were part of Sports Unlimited Retail, the company that filed for bankruptcy in late 2023. A total of 52 branches are affected by the bankruptcy. In mid-January it was announced that the British Frasers Group wanted to take over a maximum of twenty branches, but it is still unclear how many will actually be taken over. This depends on the negotiations with the landlord.

It is also unclear what will happen to the remaining Sports Unlimited Retail locations. Sports Unlimited Retail is a subsidiary of the British sporting goods retailer JD Sports. The Aktiensport and Perry Sport chains were housed in this company after they were taken over from the insolvency of the United Sports Group in 2016. It had been known for some time that the names Aktiensport and Perry Sport would disappear from the shopping street as the branches were to be converted into the Spanish sister company Sprinter. However, the conversion was not yet complete when Sports Unlimited Retail filed for bankruptcy in late 2023.
