Don’t run mills for two minutes during Remembrance Day. The wind farm thinks it’s a ‘nice idea’, the council of the municipality ‘put it on the agenda’ as soon as they start talking to the wind farm, the city council also wants it and according to the grid operator it is possible, ‘but that will cost money’.
Municipal councilor Peter Zwiers (PvdA) of the municipality of Borger-Odoorn thought it would be a good idea to shut down the windmills at the Windpark Drentse Monden and Oostermoer during Remembrance Day in the future.
The mayor and aldermen answered Zwiers’ questions this week: An ‘appropriate and respectful gesture’. The municipality has an appointment with the wind farm in mid-June to discuss it.
“We think it’s a sympathetic gesture,” says Elzo Springer of the wind farm. “But whether we will do it is still the question. We have not yet received a formal question about this, so we have not yet investigated whether it is possible. Because what is the contractual relationship with grid supplier TenneT?” A windmill can be in mourning mode, because that has happened before.
“If the municipality and the wind farm mutually decide to shut down a windmill for two minutes, then that is possible,” says Peter Hofland of TenneT. “It does cost money. We purchase electricity per hour, so it will take you an hour to stop your windmill for two minutes.”
