Stones, sticks, torches: derby guerrilla warfare 150 km from Istanbul…

The derby, won 2-0 by Fenerbahce against Galatasaray, was played in Istanbul. But in Bursa, 150 km away, the supporters of the two teams clashed violently, transforming a city neighborhood into a place of guerrilla warfare.

Before the Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray derby in the 32nd Turkish Super League matchday, the supporters of the two teams came face to face in the Görükle Dumlupınar district, in the central Nilüfer district of Bursa. The district of Nilüfer is one of the districts of the province of Bursa, Turkey. In the district, on two adjacent hills on the shores of Lake Uluabat, you can visit the remains of ancient Apollonia, a city of Misia.

Supporters attacked each other with stones, sticks and torches in the neighborhood where mostly university students were staying. As the place was turning into a battlefield, a large number of police squads were sent to the scene. With the intervention of the police teams that arrived in the area, the fans dispersed, fleeing through the side streets. Although it was learned that there were no injuries in the incidents, police teams also manned the neighborhood in the following hours so that the parties would never meet again.
